Going for gold

Our extended trip to the UK is drawing to an end and so I thought I would blog about our feelings on heading home. But before I do that, here's a blog I wrote at the end of July and didn't quite manage to post to give a flavour of the great Olympics vibe that has been constant throughout our time here. We are very sorry to be missing out on the Paralympics and will no doubt find electronic ways of catching up with it.

Olympics fever is growing here and I'm really glad we are part of it rather than on the other side of the equator. Arriving in the UK after the athletes had started to appear I did wonder if we would get caught up at Heathrow or in the games lanes but the kids and I at least avoided that. It may of course be different when Tim arrives - will test whether our tolerance of hanging around and sitting in traffic has changed over the last few months. I suspect not.

We joined London friends and neighbours earlier in the week to see the torch and all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - of course the sun helped but the whole torch thing does seem to have worked in raising excitement levels and getting interest going.

Our own Olympic plans are to see some live football and sailing and to watch a lot of telly - the boys' idea of bliss. In the meantime we are having a great time bringing the Olympics to our stay with cousins. Thus far the kids have spent time creating lego Olympics, training for the Badminton team in 2020, collecting the inevitable olympics trading cards and devising their own dance routines for the opening ceremony. Danny Boyle eat your heart out!
